Trezor SUITE® — Starting Up Your Device
Getting started with your Trezor device is simple, secure, and designed to give you full control over your cryptocurrencies. With Trezor Suite®, you have a powerful companion app that allows you to manage your assets, monitor your portfolio, and perform transactions safely. This guide walks you through the essential steps to set up your device, connect it to Trezor Suite, and ensure your crypto assets are secure.
Step 1: Unboxing and Initial Setup
When your Trezor device arrives, check that the package is sealed and contains the following items:
- Trezor hardware wallet
- USB cable
- Recovery seed card
- Quick start guide
Before you plug in your device, make sure your computer or mobile device is ready. Always download Trezor Suite® from the official Trezor website to avoid malicious software. Avoid using third-party apps that claim to support Trezor devices, as these could compromise your security.
Once you connect your Trezor to your computer or mobile device via USB, the device will power on and display a welcome screen. Follow the on-device instructions carefully — every step is designed to protect your cryptocurrency and personal data.
Step 2: Installing Trezor Suite®
Trezor Suite® is the official application for managing your Trezor device. It’s available for Windows, macOS, Linux, and even as a web app. Download and install Trezor Suite following the instructions for your platform.
Once installed, open Trezor Suite and select “Create New Wallet” if this is your first time using the device. The application will guide you to set up a PIN and generate your recovery seed. Remember, your recovery seed is the most important backup of your wallet. Store it offline in a safe place, never share it digitally, and never take a photo of it. For more information, check out our Trezor Suite Security Guide.
Step 3: Setting Up Your Device PIN
Your device PIN is a critical layer of security. Trezor uses a unique PIN entry system where the numbers on the device screen are randomized each time, preventing keyloggers from capturing your PIN.
To set your PIN, follow these steps on the device:
- Choose a PIN length (usually 4–9 digits).
- Enter your PIN using the device screen to match the positions shown on your computer.
- Confirm the PIN by entering it again.
This PIN will be required every time you access your wallet via Trezor Suite, ensuring that even if your device is lost or stolen, your assets remain protected.
Step 4: Backing Up Your Recovery Seed
After setting your PIN, Trezor will generate a recovery seed, a list of 12–24 words unique to your wallet. This seed is your ultimate backup — if your device is ever lost, stolen, or damaged, you can recover your wallet and all your assets using this seed.
Write the seed carefully on the provided recovery card. Avoid storing it digitally, in emails, or on cloud services. For extra security, consider splitting the seed into multiple secure locations. Learn more about best practices in our Trezor Recovery Guide.
Step 5: Connecting to Trezor Suite®
With your device secured, open Trezor Suite® and connect your wallet. The suite will recognize your device and allow you to:
- Check your balances in real-time
- Send and receive cryptocurrencies
- Manage multiple accounts and wallets
- Access detailed transaction history
Trezor Suite also supports advanced features like coin control, portfolio analytics, and integration with third-party apps for additional utility. For guidance on navigating the suite, see our Trezor Suite Walkthrough.
Step 6: Performing Your First Transaction
Once your wallet is set up and synced with Trezor Suite, you can perform transactions. To receive funds, click Receive, share your address, and confirm it on your device. To send crypto, select Send, enter the recipient’s address, verify all details, and confirm on the Trezor device. This double-confirmation ensures that unauthorized access is virtually impossible.
For ongoing security, always keep your device firmware up-to-date through Trezor Suite. Firmware updates not only add features but also patch any vulnerabilities.
Why Trezor Suite®
